The Enchantress Circe by Mr. Cullen's 4th period
PLOT SUMMARYCirce was a beautiful Enchantress which was stop number 4 on Odysseus' trip trying to get back home. He had just left from the island of the Cyclops. There he had just lost six men. They were stopping to grab some water when the wind god Aeolis was there. Aeolis took all of the bad winds away so Odysseus could have an easier trip backhome. On the way home the men started to get a little curious. They could see Ithica but someone had just opened the bag of winds and let the bad winds out. This caused them to be blown to the island of Circe. Here they have no food, water, or any supplies. Odysseus made some of his men go hunting to look for food. These men were captured and turned into animals. One of the men came back and told what happened. Some of them did not believe him. So Odysseus went to see for himself. Hermes meets him on the way there and gives Odysseus something to protect him from Circe's potion. When he gets there, Circe gave him the potion and he does not change. She makes him a deal that if he sleeps with her she will turn his crew from animals back into men. He does this and sure enough his crew is turned back into men. Even though he slept with another women, he was still thinking of his dear Penelope in Ithica. He only slept with Circe to get his men back. Odysseus shows his wisdom. Penelope sets up a little bet with the suitor's. The suitor's think's this is going to be fun and easy. Only Odysseus can string the bow and get it through all 12 lines. The suitor's fail at this bet. Odysseus as "the beggar" strings the bow and shoots it through all the handles. Odysseus and Telemachus kills all the suitor's.

Odysseus came home and realize that his dog Argos, was in bad shape, noone took care of him. My reaction was being shocked because i would think that penelope an the workers around the house would know how much Argos meant to Odysseus an continued to take great care of him. Argos knew Odysseus's voice that shows that he never gave up on his owner an that he's loyal. Why i think Arogos was loyal? Argos is loyal because he remembere his owner's voice, he also int get mad at Odysseus for being gone an leaving him to go off to war. Odysseus was mad when he seen how Argos was abandoned by everyone that was suppose to take care of him.

    Death at the Palace
    PLOT ANALYSIS
I think that Death at the Palace is trying to teach the greek students that if the gods say it is alright to do something then go ahead and do it. I also think it is teaching the students that the greek gods help you through anything. An example of that is Poseidon. Poseidon cursed Odysseus but he also helped him. He helped Odysseus to remember to not have too much pride. Pride is a good thing but you have to use it wisely. I learned that if you believe and trust that you can do pretty much anything you want to do. Odysseus had to kill the suitors that invaded his palace and used his money, I think that was right of him to do. The gods gave him the sign to go ahead and kill the suitors. If Odysseus had went ahead and killed the suitors without the gods approval he would have been in big trouble. After reading this book in the odyssey I understand the greek culture and gods a little bit better. -- Ebony Price
